IPL

IPL is an in office dry eye treatment that targets the meibomian glands. It is a safe, gentle, and effective treatment for dry eye. Opti-Light by Lumenis is the first and only FDA approved intense-pulsed light (IPL) device for the treatment of dry eye. IPL treatment usually takes around 15-20 minutes to perform. It improves meibomian gland function, eliminates blood vessels that contribute to inflammation and  increases tear break up time. IPL usually requires four initial treatments spaced approximately 3 weeks apart. The effects of the treatment aren't usually noticed until after the fourth treatment. Then maintenance treatments are usually required after the four initial treatments. The frequency of the maintenance treatments vary on a case by case basis.
